Welcome!
About ten years into my career, I began noticing that traditional methods for treatment (talk therapy) were not providing change for a significant number of people. Since I got into the business to facilitate change for people this was unacceptable, so I began exploring alternative methods for change. I studied body-centered psychotherapies, EMDR therapy (alternative at the time 1991), energetic forms of healing and various spiritual traditions.
I have a foot in two worlds. The traditional and nontraditional. Although many nontraditional forms of healing and change that I studied are now mainstream or are becoming better understood so more accepted.
I will be sharing my journey as a mental health professional, what I found worked, and what did not, and my perspective about change, tools and programs that can be helpful, as well as a variety of resources.
My Background
My name is Debra Littrell. I have been a licensed mental health counselor since 1977. I am also an EMDR Facilitator with the EMDR Institute and EMDR HAP and an EMDR Approved Consultant. I facilitate workshops and write as well. I teach a series of courses for mental health professions called Somatic & Energetic Resourcing. And will be releasing some new courses for the general public.
I have been on Faculty with the EMDR Institute as a Facilitator since 1996 and am a EMDRIA Approved Consultant. I have provided critical incident services and crisis intervention for emergency service personnel and businesses. I have written a number of training programs for mental health practitioners, teachers, emergency service personnel, and the general public. I have also been a facilitator for a number of organizations. My book for Mental Health Practitioners, "Somatic & Energetic Resourcing - Facilitating Clients Living Authentically" was published in 2015.
My focus with clients in the latter part of my career has been to do experiential activities that help them discover the difference between who they are authentically and who they have been conditioned to be. Giving them tools undo the conditioning so their authenticity can emerge. And resolving traumatic experiences that block them from coming fully into themselves.

This is not psychotherapy, and should not be used as psychotherapy. This is only for general information and education, that may help you find the tools, skills, programs, etc. you may find useful. You may find some of the educational tools helpful to use in your daily life. Use them at your own discretion. Take what works for you and leave the rest.
If you are in a therapeutic relationship with a mental health clinician please make them aware of what you are using and check that there is nothing that would contraindicate your use of them. If you have a trauma history, especially a significant trauma history I suggest you use the tools in conjunction with psychotherapy, so you have plenty of support if you need to clear traumatic experiences, if they were to arise.
No clinician-client relationship is created when you read or subscribe to the information on this Substack. I plan to provide new content once or twice a month, and more frequently as time allows.
